Bronze Vaghaar (Tadka) Pan

Tired of burning your tadka in a big pot, or scraping mustard seeds off the stove?

This is the little pan Mum has always used for vaghar. Heat a spoonful of oil or ghee, add your jeera, rai, hing and curry leaves, and pour the sizzling tadka straight over your dal, kadhi, dhokla or sabzi. All the flavour, no extra pot to wash.

"Mum, I want one of those small tadka pans to do my Vaghaar, where can I get a good one?"

With this easy-to-use kitchen tool, you can create restaurant-quality dishes in the comfort of your own home. Add a little bit of Gujarati magic to your meals with our tadka pan.

Why not just use a small saucepan?

A saucepan is too big for a spoonful of oil. The oil spreads thin, heats unevenly and your spices burn before they crackle. This little pan heats a small amount of oil fast, so your jeera and rai pop perfectly every time.

Will it last?

Yes. It's solid bronze, heavy and made to hold heat, just like the ones in our grandmothers' kitchens. Each one is handmade in Kerala. Use it every day and pass it down.

Is it safe to hold?

The long handle keeps your hands well away from spitting oil when you pour your tadka over your dal, kadhi or dhokla.

How big is it?

The bowl is about 11.5 cm across, and it's 32 cm long including the handle. It weighs about 1.1 kg. Each one is handmade, so size and finish can vary slightly.

How do I look after it?

Hand wash only and dry straight away. Bronze darkens naturally with use. To bring back the shine, rub with lemon and salt (or tamarind), then rinse.

I can start learning meals that she always keeps to herself

My mum's the same where she never has a recipe to give me hahaha. So this way I can start learning meals that she always keeps to herself. Easiest way for any Indian mum to have her kids come home so often when we're all really busy.

I tried to put the recipes on paper as Ba was cooking.

All, my brothers, sister and sisters-in-law refer to your book. We all think it is excellently presented with recipes that my mother used to cook. Before my mother passed away in March 2020, all my sister & sisters-in-law tried to put the recipes on paper as Ba was cooking.
